Tallahassee, FL - Leon County teachers are preparing for Florida's new education standards.
To do so, they're hitting the books themselves. Teachers are learning the new standards that'll go into effect this upcoming school year, so they can then teach them to the students.
Classrooms at Gilchrist Elementary are set up this week to give the teachers the full effect of how their students will be learning.
The training is being led by teachers in the district.
Third grade teacher, Jaimie Sherraden, says, "To hear it coming from someone who is actually going to be doing it in their classroom as opposed to somebody who is bringing the program in from the outside and trying to tell you all the great aspects of it; we're sharing ideas. I think that we are the most prepared district in Florida."
Training for the new reading and math standards will continue next week.
