Leon County Board of County Commissioners
The Leon County Division of Tourism Development, also known as Visit Tallahassee, welcomes the United States Fast-Pitch Association (USFA) Sunshine State Championship to town today, Friday, June 14 through Sunday, June 16.
Sixty-eight girls fast pitch teams from Florida, Georgia and Alabama will compete in this year’s tournament being held at the Messer Sports Complex on Jackson Bluff Road.
Of the 68 teams registered, more than 55 are visiting from outside the Leon County area.
The tournament is expected to generate more than $573,000 in direct visitor spending for the community and 1,000 hotel room nights.
This is the second consecutive year the state championship and national qualifying tournament have been hosted in Tallahassee, with a 40 percent increase in the number of teams this year compared to last year.
“The USFA does a tremendous job producing competitive tournaments that athletes enjoy,” said Lee Daniel, executive director of the Leon County Division of Tourism Development (Visit Tallahassee). “The Sunshine State Championship brings a tremendous economic boost to the area.”
Visit Tallahassee works directly with USFA to secure annual tournament dates, facilities and hotel accommodations for all participating teams.
Tickets for the tournament are $5 for Friday and $7 per day for games on Saturday and Sunday. A pass for the entire weekend is $15. A complete tournament schedule is available at www.flusfa.com and tickets can be purchased onsite.
