Leon County Sheriff's Office Wins New Motorcycle in Law Enforcement Challenge

Leon County, Florida- July 18, 2012

The Leon County Sheriff's Office is the owner of a brand new 2012 Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle, courtesy of the Florida Law Enforcement Motor Challenge.

Last year the Leon County Sheriff's Office Motor Unit participated in the annual Florida Law Enforcement Motor Challenge. The challenge is based on enforcement activities performed by the motorcycle units from different agencies in the state of Florida.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office Motor Unit placed 5th overall out of 106 participating agencies. On July 13, 2012, Lt. Silas Lewis and Deputy Paxton Rogers, both members of the LCSO Motor Unit, attended the awards ceremony for the challenge in Orlando, FL. Sheriff Larry Campbell said, “Congratulations to the motor unit. They work hard every day and their efforts were recognized all across the State of Florida.”

The top ten agencies were given the chance to win a brand new 2012 Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle. Each agency selected a member to choose a key from a pile of keys. Only one of the keys would start the motorcycle. Lt. Lewis was chosen to select the key for LCSO. Each agency representative then had a chance to place their key in the motorcycle to see if the motorcycle would turn on. Lt. Lewis’ key cranked the motorcycle.

As for winning the motorcycle, Sheriff Campbell said, “This motorcycle is an expensive piece of equipment that will continue to assist the unit in their proactive traffic enforcement efforts.”
