News Release: Girls on the Run
August 20, 2014
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Girls on the Run of the Big Bend is kicking off its SoleMates Campaign.
SoleMates is the official adult charity running team of GOTRBB and they say they use the power of running to help girls live healthier, active lives filled with self-esteem and self respect.
The program strives to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living by training 3rd-8th grade girls to complete a run/walk. GOTRBB uses the experience of training for and running a 5K to show girls that anything is possible.
“I became a SoleMate because at the time it was the biggest impact I could make with raising funds for GOTRBB,” said James Balarezo, GOTRBB Board Member. “While training for my half marathon, it became much more than that for me. I was constantly reminded why I decided to push myself to achieve something I've never done before. Even though I ran those 13.1 miles alone, I was never by myself, I always had the GOTR team in my corner, and I believe that is what the girls feel when they're going through our program.”
For an annual one-time registration fee of $26, members commit to raising a minimum of $310.
Their stated goal is to raise enough money to reach every girl, and to educate and prepare her for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.
