Locals Discuss Gun Control in Wake of Colorado Tragedy

Tallahassee, Florida- July 20, 2012

All over the nation, people are shocked and horrified at what happened early this morning in Aurora, Colorado. What is up for debate however, is if this event will lead to stricter gun control laws…

Some were surprised to learn Colorado has some of the loosest gun laws in the country, even looser than some Florida and Georgia statutes.
For example, Colorado allows people to openly carry a gun without a permit, something Florida and Georgia have rules against.
Local folks on both sides of the gun control argument had plenty to say:

Says Helen Free:
“I do think it's important that the law is in place, but I don't think you can ban guns, is the answer.”

Says Brett Ingram:
“The gun laws are set for law-abiding citizens but there are people who are going to get them one way or another.”

Says Curtis Oliver:
“I think it's way too easy to get guns in the state, as far as illegal or legal. And we should do something about that to protect our citizens.”

However, no one seems optimistic that it will prompt anyone to take action.
