Breastfeeding women across the world are attempting to break the world record for the most moms breastfeeding at the same time.
Area women met earlier today at the Leon County Public Library. At exactly ten thirty they all held thier babies and took part in what is being called the Big Latch On. This event is happening in each time zone at the same time of day.
Women raised their hands to let the person in charge of counting heads know they had a latch. What had been a pretty noisy room became a little bit quieter as nursing babies and mothers took part in The Big Latch On for exactly one minute. Women at the event said Tallahassee in particular is a great place to find support if you're a nursing mother.
Kirsten Vindinhar: "There is a ton of support in this community. Breast feeding is not the easiest thing to do but these women make it so much easier with the support that they offer in person and online and la leche league. It's been incredible the amount of support and how strong this community is."
Doctors agree that breast feeding is the best option for both babies and moms. Mothers at the Latch On say pumping is always an option if your baby wont latch.
Organizers at the event today said they did not know when the results would be announced. They had to turn in their official count today by two thirty. They say they were very impressed with the turnout.
