Taylor County - September 15, 2012
The Florida Highway Patrol says a truck driver tried to avoid one crash and caused another.
It happened in Taylor County Friday at 4:30pm.
According to FHP, Roger Holt, 51, was traveling north in a log truck loaded with logs on County Road 361 (Beach Road).
The release says Holt was following a vehicle that was slowing for a vehicle that was making a left turn onto Potts Still Road.
FHP says Holt was unable to stop for the slowing vehicle.
According to FHP, Holt steered his truck onto the east shoulder of County Road 361 to avoid colliding with the rear of the slowing vehicle.
FHP says Holt lost control of his truck. The truck traveled north along the east shoulder of County Road 361 where the log truck and trailer overturned onto its right side.
The logs from the truck collided with a power pole and 4- telephone remote communications sever boxes.
The truck and trailer came to final facing north on the east shoulder of County Road 361. According to FHP, Holt's was taken to Doctor's Memorial Hospital in serious condition. According to the release, alcohol was not involved.
Holt was charged with careless driving.
Taylor County Rescue, Taylor County Fire and Taylor County Sheriff's Office assisted on the scene.
