Officials say a 65-year-old Louisiana man drowned in the Gulf of Mexico on Labor Day.
The Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office says Roderick M. Maybee of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was pulled unconscious from the water Monday afternoon off the Florida Panhandle beach where he'd been vacationing with his family.
The Northwest Florida Daily News reports red flags were flying on the beach alerting swimmers to dangerous rip currents.
Maybee was airlifted to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Later Monday, firefighters on Okaloosa Island were called to a scene where a toddler had been pulled from the water. Bystanders were performing CPR when rescue crews arrived.
Officials say the 2-year-old child was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in nearby Pensacola. The child was reported to be in critical condition.
