Man Arrested For Valdosta Liquor Store Shooting

Investigators have continued their investigation of the aggravated assault that occurred on Thursday, January 09, 2014 on North Valdosta Road. This afternoon investigators signed an arrest warrant for Gerald Griffin and he was later stopped and arrested by deputies while driving on Highway 84 near James Road. Gerald Griffin was taken to the Lowndes County Jail where he is being held.

Investigators are continuing to work on this investigation and trying to establish a clear motive for this violent attack. Additional charges may be sought for Griffin and other persons who are believed to be involved.

Lowndes County, Ga. -- Investigators are continuing to follow leads related to an aggravated assault that occurred on Thursday, January 09, 2014. Around 3:30 pm a call was placed to 911 indicating that a person had been shot and the victim was located at the Flash Foods convenience store at 4205 North Valdosta Road.

Deputies and investigators immediately responded to this business and met with Jermaine Demps who had been shot and had non-life threatening injuries. Demps was transported by ambulance for treatment of his injuries.

Two additional persons at the business, Anthony Howell and Jacquil Sloan, who arrived with Demps, remained at the business and were subsequently interviewed by investigators.

All of the victims indicated that Demps was shot by a person unknown to them for reasons unknown. It was confirmed that the assault took place at the Liquor Barn, located at 3990 North Valdosta Road. The vehicle was driven to Flash Foods by the victim and was towed from the business to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office for processing in an attempt to recover evidence related to the assault.

The suspect is described as a black male, with shoulder length hair and was driving a dark colored S.U.V. similar to a Chevrolet Suburban although the exact make of the vehicle is unknown.
