-- Valdosta, Ga. -- March 12, 2013 --

The City of Valdosta and Lowndes County have reached an agreement on how to split the revenue from a local sales tax.

SPLOST is a penny tax on all sales in the county. It is in its seventh cycle and estimated to generated roughly 150 million dollars. 53% of that will go to the City of Valdosta and roughly 42% will go to the county. The city's mayor spoke about what the money will be used for.

Mayor John Gayle said "of the eighty million that we project that the city will get, we're going to have to allocate fifty five million just for the water sewer plant, wastewater treatment plant. There will be some other things that we do such as paving, you know, repaving or resurficing of streets."

The remaining money from SPLOST will be evenly split between Hahira, Remerton, Dasher and Lake Park.
