On 4/3/14, the Tallahassee Police Department was notified about a 16 year old runaway, Sage Tyre. Tyre was in a licensed foster placement; however his licensed foster parent, Deidre Walker, was recently told she could no longer be his legal guardian.

In the following days, The Tallahassee Police Department received information indicating Tyre and Walker were armed, traveling in a vehicle together, and no longer in Florida. A warrant was obtained for Walker’s arrest.

On 04/14/14, The Tallahassee Police Department coordinated with the Giles County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee. The Giles County Sheriff’s Office followed up with local businesses, and were able to confirm the two were in their jurisdiction, and determined a possible location. Further information found Tyre, Walker and a third male left Tennessee and were possibly headed to New Jersey.

Continued coordinated efforts revealed Tyre and Walker traveled to Egg Harbor Parish, New Jersey. This information was provided to the United States Marshal’s Task Force in Tallahassee, who passed on the information to the US Marshal’s Task Force in New Jersey.

Tyre and Walker were located at a McDonalds in Mays Landing, NJ. As they left the restaurant, they were confronted by the US Marshal’s Task Force and the New Jersey State Police, without incident. The weapons were recovered inside the vehicle.

The Tallahassee Police Department would like to thank Giles County Sheriff’s Office, US Marshal’s Task Force and the New Jersey State Police for their rapid response to our request for assistance, and their coordinated efforts to take Tyre and Walker safely into custody.

Walker has been arrested and charged with the following crime:
