City of Tallahassee Release
There is a FREE StarMetro Shuttle to event featuring live music, food and fireworks in downtown Tallahassee!
The celebratory countdown to 2013 is only a few days away and those wanting to kick-off the New Year in style will find what they are looking for in downtown Tallahassee. On Monday, December 31, the Downtown Improvement Authority and the Downtown Business Association, with support from the City of Tallahassee and other sponsors, will host the New Year’s Eve 2013 Celebration.
The event, which is free to the public, will feature popular bands, a spectacular fireworks show and free transportation provided by StarMetro.
“The City of Tallahassee is thrilled to co-sponsor this magnificent, family-friendly event,” said Mayor John Marks. “Join us downtown as we ring in the New Year and look forward to a healthy, happy and prosperous 2013 for the citizens of Tallahassee. I encourage everyone to take part and support our downtown businesses.”
The nighttime celebration will begin at 7 p.m. in Kleman Plaza featuring live performances from local bands Boyd and Woody and Tom and the Cats. Then at 10:15 p.m., the nationally known band Sister Hazel will take the stage to perform their chart-topping hits, including “All For You” and “Change Your Mind.”
Throughout the night, huge area displays will simulcast the New Year’s Eve celebration taking place in New York’s iconic Times Square. The night’s events will culminate with a grand, 15-minute fireworks show at midnight.
Party-goers needing a ride to and from all of the festivities can take StarMetro. The transit agency will offer a free shuttle service from several downtown parking areas to Kleman Plaza.
The shuttle service begins at 7:30 p.m. and will continue well after the ball drops, ending at 1:30 a.m. In order to board the shuttle, party-goers will need to stand at any designated StarMetro bus stop along the route. Park-and-ride locations include Florida State University’s Doak Campbell Stadium and Governor’s Square Mall.
For those driving, several downtown parking garages will be open. Motorists can access parking in Kleman Plaza via the Bronough Street entrance.
Motorists should also be mindful that Duval Street between Pensacola Street and College Avenue will be closed for the day. The road closure will begin at 9 a.m. in order to allow crews to set up for the New Year’s Eve celebration. The closure is expected to end after the event around 2 a.m.
