Moultrie, GA- Jason Lee Brown, 32, is now behind bars after police say he was caught on surveillance video robbing the '1 Stop' convenience store along First Avenue S.E. in Moultrie Sunday evening.

The manager of the store said it was just him and his brother working at the time of the incident. He said Brown first came in and made a small purchase, then left the store; but just a few seconds later, he returned. This time, demanding that they hand over the cash.

"He proceeded to take the cash register. He took the bottom portion. He tried to run from the store but the employee had a system in his business where he presses a button and the doors lock," said Investigator Raul Leal with the Moultrie Police Department.

Brown struggled with the door for a few seconds, before finally busting free. At that point, police say he then ran across the street to McDonalds, hopped into a car and took off; leading Colquitt County Sheriff's Deputies on a 20 minute, high-speed chase.

Brown eluded capture to start, but hours later, police spotted the car and acted fast.

"We did a traffic stop on the vehicle," Investigator Leal said. "The traffic stop ended at Zaxby's parking lot in Moultrie and that's where the subject was apprehended."

Police say, at the time of his arrest, Brown had a large amount of cash in his pockets; money they believe he took from the convenience store.

The register drawer was found a few blocks away.

Brown was charged with robbery and was taken to Colquitt County Jail.
