OKALOOSA ISLAND, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities want to know how a 30-year-old Louisiana man came out of his life jacket and drowned after being tossed from a personal watercraft he was riding in the Choctawhatchee Bay.
The Northwest Florida Daily News (http://bit.ly/1enXwl6 ) reports Andrew and Brandy Clayton got caught in the wake from a passing boat Saturday afternoon off Okaloosa Island in the Florida Panhandle.
Florida Fish and Wildlife spokesman Stan Kirkland says both were wearing lifejackets, but Andrew Clayton's came off in the water. They found it with two of the three buckles unsnapped.
Kirkland says passing boaters saw Brandy Clayton struggling to help her husband. They pulled them from the water but he was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The Claytons were celebrating their one-year anniversary.
