ORLANDO, Florida -- September 15, 2012
A central Florida man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for an argument that turned deadly.
As part of a deal with Orange County prosecutors, 22-year-old Ruben Rodriguez was sentenced on Friday after pleading no contest to second-degree murder. He could have received a life sentence.
Authorities said Rodriguez had just finished fighting with someone else outside a downtown Orlando nightclub last September when someone inside a car at a nearby traffic light threw a plastic cup out the window that landed at Rodriguez's feet. Rodriguez began arguing with someone in the car.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that Rodriguez eventually pulled a gun and fired a shot, which hit 21-year-old Victoria Straughter in the neck. She later died at a hospital.
