JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Police say a robbery turned fatal inside a Jacksonville home when the would-be victim shot the intruder.
The homeowners told Jacksonville Sheriff's officers that they were just waking up when they heard someone coming in their back door Friday morning.
Officials told The Florida Times-Union the homeowner was able to retrieve a firearm and fatally shot the intruder after a brief scuffle. The couple called the sheriff's office around 6:30 a.m. Friday to report the shooting.
Police say the man had a blunt weapon. Both residents, a man and woman, were injured and taken to the hospital. They were listed in stable condition on Friday.
