Man Shot at Valdosta Apartments

On May 22, 2013 at approximately 1:21 a.m. hours, officers from the Valdosta Police Department responded to a noise complaint at the Grove Apartment Complex , 2201 Baytree Road.

Officers arrived and located a large gathering outside of building “F” and at apartment 723 in the same building. Officers indicated that as they were downstairs speaking to the resident of that apartment, they heard gunshots, followed by people running from the apartment.

Officers made their way up to the apartment and located, Aric Simmons, African American male, 22 years of age, inside with a single gunshot wound to his lower torso. EMS was called, the scene was secured, and several witnesses were detained.

Personnel from the Valdosta Police Department Persons Crime Unit and the Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory responded to investigate.

Simmons was transported by EMS to South Georgia Medical Center where he underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

As of late this morning, Investigators were waiting for Simmons to come out of recovery to interview him about the incident. It appears to be an isolated incident and the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.
