Marianna Teen Fakes Attempted Abduction

Marianna, FL - On 11-19-12, around 7:55p.m., the Marianna Police Department responded to the M.E.R.E. project in reference to a possible abduction attempt whereas a 14 year old female stated an unknown suspect had taken her from the bathroom area of the playing fields to a wooded section of the compound where she was able to free herself and run to safety.

The tracking dogs from JCI and ACI were called to the scene but no track or scents were located. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office also responded to help in the search. This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with any information in regards to this incident is asked to contact the Marianna Police Department at 850-526-3125 or Crimestoppers at 850-526-5000.

Upon further investigation the Marianna Police Department was able to determine that the victim fabricated the alleged attempted abduction. This incident never occurred and the false report was an attempt by the alleged victim to conceal her activities from her parents.

The Marianna Police Department wants to assure all the athletes, parents, spectators and visitors to the M.E.R.E Complex in Marianna that is it a safe place to go and participate in the local community’s recreational activities.
