Tallahassee,FL - One of the most important monuments in Tallahassee was re-dedicated this morning. The new Meridian Marker at Cascades Park was unveiled. The Meridian Marker serves as the beginning point for Florida's Prime Meridian of the North,South,East and West surveying lines. The spot is now marked by a round metal disk set into a 30-foot-long granite map of Florida. "This is the initial point for all of the land boundaries established within the state of Florida and this setting that the community has established for it is a wonderful setting and we truly appreciate it," said Russell Hyatt, President of the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society.

If you're wondering about other artifacts in the old park like the Sabal Palm Tree and Memorial. That has now been replaced by 150 Sabal Palm trees in Cascades Park.
