The intersection of Miccosukee and Fleischmann roads will be re-opened to traffic beginning Friday, August 17, at 3 p.m. While traffic will be able to use the newly constructed roundabout, associated work, including sidewalk construction and the planting of nearly 700 trees, will continue. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be fully completed by mid-October.
The Miccosukee Road / Fleischmann Road Improvement Project, which began in May, called for the construction of a one-lane roundabout that will improve traffic flow while maintaining the canopy road’s natural beauty.
“Even though we have experienced a much wetter summer than we have seen in recent years, we are pleased to be able to re-open the intersection on schedule. We really appreciate the patience that drivers and especially area residents have demonstrated during the construction of this major intersection improvement,” said Gabe Menendez, director of Public Works.
The City Commission approved this project in April after the Tallahassee-Leon County Canopy Road Citizen’s Committee voted unanimously in favor of the roundabout option in lieu of long turn lanes to address traffic concerns resulting from development in the area.
