Jefferson County, FL - Paul Henry is a Jefferson County resident. He along with others is concerned about the county running out of money for mosquito control.

"I think this is something that can certainly be looked at as a private function," Henry said.

"Mosquito control is already over their budget and they're not at the end of the year yet."

County commissioners on Monday discussed next year's budget.

It proposes close to a $60,000 increase in mosquito control funding from the 2013 budget.

The problem is mosquito control funding is gone in this year's budget, in part to weather and a decrease in state funding.

"Day after day, every other day, every few days we would get a good rain and that keeps things moist and keeps the mosquitoes where they can breed, get out there and aggravate people," said Parrish Barwick, the Jefferson County coordinator.

"We've got to see how we can assist our citizens because we don't want the diseases to come, we don't want the health factors to come."

Barwick also said the health department is working on a solution to this year's funding issue with mosquito control.

They plan to address the issue in front of a regular board meeting Tuesday.
