A Tallahassee woman is now facing charges in the death of her 6 month old son.

Rickita Morrell is accused of manslaughter and child abuse.

According to the Tallahassee Police Department back in November of 2013 Morrell called 911 after she woke up and realized her baby had turned purple and was no longer breathing.

Morrell's son was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

According to TPD, a toxicology report found that the baby had high levels of an antihistamine found in benadryl.

Doctors also noted multiple broken bones including a broken femur.

However according to the family's attorney those incidents may have happened because the baby suffered from brittle bone syndrome.

"Prior to the baby being born they knew that it was going to be some problems with the baby as far as health wise, she chose to take on that responsibility, she did take on that responsibility, and it's devastating for her to now be accused of being responsible for the baby's death," said Mutaqee Akbar, family attorney.

Morrell is currently out on bond. The attorney says the family plans to see this case through until the end.

The family attorney says because of the baby's condition there were multiple medications prescribed. The family plans to look into those reports to see if there is any other explanation for the baby's death.
