Motorcyclist in Serious Condition After Colliding with Pickup

Suwannee County, FL - David Randall Wardwell, 66, of Dade City, FL, was traveling southbound on I-75 on a Harley Davidson motorcycle off ramp merging to travel east on CR 136.

Stanley Robert Covert, in an F-250 pickup towing a fifth-wheel travel trailer, was traveling east on CR 136.

Mr. Wardwell failed to yield the right-of-way to Mr. Covert as he attempted to merge into traffic from the off ramp.

The left side of the motorcycle struck the right front side of the F-250.

The motorcycle continued traveling east on CR 136 onto the overpass bridge over I-75, then struck a guardrail with its right side.

After striking the guardrail, the motorcycle continued east over the overpass and overturned onto the eastbound lane of CR 136.

The Harley Davidson came to final rest in The eastbound lane of CR 136 facing east and positioned on its right side.

The F-250 came to a controlled stop in the eastbound lane of CR 136 facing east, on the east side of the overpass.

Mr. Wardwell was airlifted to Shands at the University of Florida Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
