Taylor County, FL - An arrest has been made in the weekend murder of a Taylor County man. Deputies say it turned out to be one of his friends.

The suspect is accused of running Ashley Adams over with his truck and then beating him.

"It's just got me in such a shape. It's just awful." Says, Betty Cooper. She is still in shock by her cousin's death.
Forty-year-old Patrick Wilkinson has been arrested for the death.

Taylor County sheriff's deputies say when they arrived at Ashley Adams' home on Pharo Morgan Road Friday night, Wilkinson and his Chevrolet truck had blood on them.

Deputies say 40-year-old Adams was lying on the ground in the back yard.

Adams' cousin Judy Borklund says, "He was a good man. He worked very hard, took care of his family. I feel so sorry for his wife and his children; also his dad. I will miss him and just keep on praying."

Deputies say Wilkinson and Adams were drinking around a bonfire in the back yard when a confrontation began.

They say Wilkinson got into his truck and chased Adams down making several passes, and ran over him at least once. Then, deputies say, he got out of the truck, picked up a gardening tool, and beat Adams in the head.

Cooper says, "We just absolutely don't know one day to the next what'll happen. For something like that to happen, it's just hard to comprehend it."

Adams' family told Eyewitness News that Wilkinson was staying with Adams at the time.

Adams' dad says he does want Wilkinson to get the death penalty. Family members plan to go to the State Attorney's Office this week.

Patrick Wilkinson is charged with first degree murder and is being held in the Taylor County Jail without bond.

Adams' funeral is Tuesday, February 12th, at the Joe P. Burns Funeral Home in Perry.

A fund has been setup for the family at Tree Capital Credit Union under the 'Ashley Adams Memorial Fund.'
