US - An alarming number of traffic fatalities across the country has prompted a campaign to prevent them.

According to the National Highway and Transportation Administration, there were around 32 thousand traffic fatalities in 2011.

That number translates to about 90 deaths a day due to car crashes.

The NHTSA believes many of them are caused by distracted driving.

Today, they celebrated the twelth annual "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day."

The theme for this year - "Don't be Driven to Distraction-Drive to Arrive".
Their goal is to achieve one full day of zero traffic deaths by encouraging safer behavior.
