Neighborhood Victim Of Christmas Break-Ins

Story by: James Buechele

Tallahasee, Fla.

Criminals strike a Tallahassee neighborhood on Christmas.

At least three vehicles were broken into and one of them were stolen.

"This morning I went out to my truck and I noticed that everything in my middle console had been thrown into the driver's side seat," said victim Jake VanLandingham.

VanLandingham says on Christmas night, someone broke into his truck stealing thousands of dollars of hunting equipment.

"Apparently this was probably a group of people who had a plan to take advantage of people here in and around Christmas time when our guard was let down."

Just down the block, another pick up truck was stolen and even more cars were reportedly broken into. The crimes occurred in the Bull Run neighborhood in the northern part of Tallahassee.

Linda Katzmayr has lived in the neighborhood for five years. Word spread quickly as soon as she heard about the break-ins.

"We notify our neighbors and everybody will let everybody else know when we hear something," said Katzmayr. "It gets up and down the street and around that people will start knowing and taking a more careful watch."

As for Jake, he's learned a valuable lesson.

"The most important thing is I'm not going to keep anything that's worth much in my truck anymore."

If you have information or think you were a victim as well, call the Tallahassee Police Department.
