TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Instead of a ribbon-cutting, there was a steak-cutting. And flutes of champagne.
This week's opening of Tampa's newest hotel, The Epicurean, wasn't a typical affair. That's because this isn't a typical hotel.
From the culinary classroom with theater seating on the ground floor to the goat cheese in each room's artisanal pantry, the hotel is focused on food.
The $35 million project is a collaboration between the owner of Bern's Steak House -- which is across the street from the hotel -- and Mainsail Lodging and Development Group.
The 137-room hotel is part of Marriott International's Autograph Collection. Room prices range from $200-$300 a night.
Parts of the hotel are still under construction. When it's finished, there will be a spa, patisserie, 80-seat restaurant, wine shop and rooftop bar.
