New Florida House Speaker Lays Out Goals

Updated: Tue 10:33 PM, Nov 13, 2012

The incoming Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives says Florida's elections laws need to be reviewed.

Incoming House Speaker Will Weatherford says a committee will be reviewing and fixing recent voting problems.

The Speaker-designate says education is also a top priority.

Weatherford says the Pre-Eminence Bill, that allows some universities to raise tuition, is a good start.

He says, "We have got to do a better job of explaining to people what it actually costs to educate students at a four-year university. Also, let them know that while we want to make sure it's affordable and accessible to everybody, that nothing in this world is free. We're going to work very closely with the governor and very closely with the Senate to make sure we find that balance."

Weatherford says Florida spends between $65,000 and $100,000 per student, per four-year degree.
