TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A new judge was sworn in this week in Leon County.

Stephen Everett is the newest county judge. He was appointed by the governor to replace Judge Wheeler, who's now a circuit judge.

Everett is an LSU law school grad, who has worked previously as both a prosecutor and a public defender.

"I think what that does is ... it gives me a lot of balance on how I view cases, and when a particular defendant or a case that's in front of me, I really won't be predisposed one way or another," Everett said in an interview Wednesday.

Everett says he has dreamed of becoming a judge since he was a kid.

He's in training now and will begin hearing cases by July.
