Valdosta, GA - Valdosta City Leaders are working to bridge the gap for a major cross town passage way.
Construction starts Wednesday on the "Gornto Road Extension" project. That will seal the gap between Gornto Road and Woodrow Wilson Road.
It will create a direct route from North Valdosta Road and Bemiss Road past the hospital and on to the Remerton area where the Valdosta Mall is.
"It would reduce the traffic along adjacent roads especially Jerry Jones," said Jim Martinez, Engineering Project Manager for the City of Valdosta. "It would give people a direct route for East-West connectivity from Bemiss Road all the way to the Mall area."
The project costs $2 million and is being funded entirely through the SPLOST tax. It will take one year to complete.
