News Release: Georgia Department of Transportation
Night resurfacing is scheduled to begin this weekend on the second part of a three-phase resurfacing project that began in February. All remaining work will be done at night to minimize the impact on local businesses and the traveling public. The route was last resurfaced in 1999/2000 and the existing pavement is deteriorating. The contractor for the $5.3 million, 12-mile project is Reeves Construction Co.
Motorists should be alert for advance warning signs and should expect lane closures. Barrels and cones will channel traffic and drivers are reminded to slow down while entering and driving through work zones.
Beginning Sunday, March 30, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The entire resurfacing project is expected to be complete by May 31.
U.S. 82 Business/Oglethorpe Boulevard from near the back entrance of Walmart to U.S. 19/Slappey Boulevard. The last phase of the project picks up there and continues along U.S. 19 to the Liberty Expressway.
