UPDATE 2:05 p.m. 4-5-13
Terri Post and her boyfriend Shayne Babineau are both veterans. Terri served in the Army from 1987-89 and her Shayne served in the Navy from 1987-1991.
Both are homeless.
They drove all the way from Daytona Beach to Tallahassee for this weekend's Stand Down event at the North Florida Fairgrounds.
"It tells me that there are some people out there that still care," said Post.
More than 100 organizations will provide shelter for two days, hot meals, eye exams and even haircuts for homeless vets in the area.
"To me that's an amazing thing," Babineau said. "I think it's awesome to see so many different groups come together."
For Terri and Shayne, a Dodge Durango has been home for about a year but they're not just getting help here at Stand Down, they're also volunteering their time. They drove up Wednesday and will stay through Sunday helping other veterans receive valuable information.
"It's all about helping my brothers and sisters," said Post. "We all served. We all did our part. We all stepped up and made that oath. Now we need help."
For veterans like Shayne and Terri, having a hot shower and valuable information on services can go a long way in getting back on their feet. The Stand Down will conclude on Sunday April 7 with a graduation ceremony for veterans.
Shayne has a blog with information for vets to help out at www.cyberfivets.org Below is more information listed about the event.
