Gun shots rang out down Broad Street in Thomasville late Tuesday night, causing a stir in the community.
Smallcakes employee Angela Sykes was having dinner at The Chop House when the shooting happened. "We heard, you know, a couple of "bangs" kind of go off and we didn't think anything of it," Sykes says. "This morning, to find out that it was a shooting that had occurred...it just...chill bumps completely because downtown is somewhere you don't expect something like this to happen at all."
According to officials, around 10:24 p.m. Tuesday night, police were called to the 400 block of Broad Street where, they say, they saw 35 year old Anthony Adams with two gun shot wounds. One in the facial area and one in the leg. Officials say, they later found out that 19 year old Tyree Jones had pulled the trigger.
Lieutenant Eric Hampton of the Thomasville Police Department says that Jones and Adams were involved in some sort of confrontation. "At some point during the altercation, a gun was pulled by Mr. Jones. Shots were fired and Mr. Adams was struck two times."
Adams was taken to Archbold Medical Center. There is no word yet on how serious his injuries are. Hampton adds, "We don't know what the justification was [or] what the motive was for the shooting."
Thomasville residents were shocked to learn that another shooting happened in their backyard. Local resident Sonia Bond says, "It's really shocking because regularly, normally, this is a quiet community and it's peaceful." Lisa Taylor, owner of Loli's off Broad Street says, "It is scary knowing that they were that close firing weapons."
Jones is being charged with aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Police are asking that if you have any information on the shooting to call (229) 227-3302.
