Associated Press Release
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- One man has died in the hospital and his father remains in critical condition after breathing fumes inside an empty asphalt tanker in Hillsborough County.
A Fire Rescue statement says 29-year-old Luis Gonzalez and 53-year-old Ernesto Gonzalez had gone to help a friend that drives an asphalt tanker who thought there was something stuck inside, causing it to drain slow. Authorities say the father and son went down into the tanker to check on it when they were overtaken by fumes.
Fire rescue responded and found both men unconscious Saturday inside the tanker. There was nothing inside the tank, just fumes from lack of ventilation. Both men were taken to the hospital, where Luis Gonzalez was pronounced dead and his father remains in critical condition.
No other injuries were reported.
