Valdosta, Georgia- August 31, 2012

On August 31, 2012 at approximately 7:30, the Valdosta Police Department responded to the IFCO, 515 Highland Drive, in reference to a report that someone had been stabbed. Officers arrived at the business and were told that the offender, Ricardo Smith, had left the scene on foot. Officers and Deputies from the Valdosta Police Department and the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office located Smith a short distance away and took him into custody. The victim, Cory James, was transported by EMS to the SGMC ER. James was stabbed twice in the chest area, but the wounds did not appear to be life threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Smith was transported to the Valdosta Police Department for questioning by detectives and then taken to the Lowndes County Jail where he has been charged with Aggravated Assault. The incident appears to have started with an argument between James and Smith the night before at their residence and continued this morning when they arrived at work.

Anyone having any further information regarding this crime or any other crime is urged to contact the Valdosta Police Department at 229-293-3145 or can remain anonymous at 229-293-3091.
