[SLIDE SHOW] Operation Prom Night

Tallahassee, FL –April 20, 2012

Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare’s Trauma Center presents Operation Prom Night for the third year in Tallahassee on Friday, April 20, 2012. Operation Prom Night is an injury prevention program designed to provide young adults a realistic view of the results of drinking and driving or texting and driving. The enactment will involve students on their way to prom and are involved in a car crash after they have been drinking. Counselors and school staff will be available as needed after the dramatization.

In 1998, there were 50 deaths in Florida on prom nights. But luckily thanks, in part, to the work of the Florida Department of Health’s (DOH) 22 certified trauma centers around the state and awareness events such as Operation Prom Night, there has not been an accident-related death on prom night in 6 years.

“This is an excellent program for our students to see. Together, the TMH Trauma Center, Bixler Emergency Team, city and county partners have put much effort into this program. Our goal is to make sure all our students live to see their graduation day,” said Freda Lyon, RN, Service Line Administrator of Tallahassee Memorial’s Emergency Services.
