Valdosta, GA - It's hard enough to have one team win a National Championship but the Valdosta State Blazes had three do it this year.
Lawn chairs lined Patterson Street in Valdosta Wednesday as residents worked to get a front row seat to the "Parade of Champions". They were anxious to have a chance to cheer on their NCAA Division II National Championship Teams for football, softball and men's tennis.
"Well it means the world to us to see the whole community come out and give the whole university that's won a National Championship, that's softball as well as tennis, a big congratulations," said Cayden Cochran, VSU Football Quarterback.
The parade culminated at Drexel Park where hundreds of fans heard from coaches, the mayor and VSU President William McKinney.
"Back in May, we were on our way back from a vacation and we were sitting in an airport in Chicago, each of us holding our smart phones and what do you think we were doing? We were watching pitch by pitch Blazer Softball winning a National Championship," said Dr. William McKinney, VSU President.
Head Football Coach David Dean may have said it best.
"This National Championship is our championship. Congratulations to you Valdosta, Georgia on another championship. Thank you so much," said David Dean, VSU Head Football Coach.
