August 11, 2011 -

The weak economy is hitting Americans where they spend a lot of their free time: in front of the TV.

The Associated Press says more people are canceling cable and satellite TV subscriptions in record numbers.

The main reason appears to be high unemployment and a housing market that has many people living with their parents, reducing the need for a separate cable bill.

Like this woman, others are canceling cable in favor of cheap or free Internet video.

If that's the case, viewers might see more restrictions on online video, as TV companies try to get paid for what they produce.

In order to get the three or four cable channels I watch I had to pay for about 500 channels I don't watch. And then came streaming. Adios cable company and their bloated bill. I say, let the cable companies stew in their own juices: their plight is one of their own making.
