An argument with a roommate leads to TAC units being called to a Tallahassee neighborhood.

"There was so many cars around, I thought it might have been they were busting somebody for terrorism," said neighbor Quinton Nealy.

The TAC team surrounded his home off Barnstaple Drive a little after 8 a.m. Friday morning.

Police say a man got into an argument with his roommate and then showed a long gun or rifle threatening to harm himself. The roommate left the home and authorities were called.

"Once we used that loud PA system he did hear us," said officer Dave Northway of the Tallahassee Police Department talking about the man. "He did come out. He was cooperative. He was taken into custody and he'll be taken to a local hospital for treatment."

One of the bigger concerns was the uncertainty about the rifle. Police say dealing with those types of weapons is different than dealing with hand guns.

"They also have more power behind them so they're going to go through things that a hand gun might not normally go through."

Homes near the area were evacuated and many in the Weems Plantation Neighborhood were on edge.

"You don't know if anybody's running through the neighborhood or just some type of robbery going on, so there was definitely some concern," added Nealy.

Because the man made threats against his own life, TPD will not release his identity and no charges are being filed. Officials cleared the scene just after 10 a.m.

Police say the suspect was making threats against himself, and he is now being taken to an area medical facility for evaluation.

Police also said that people should be able to come back to their homes in the area soon.

Around 8:10 a.m., TPD was called out to 3488 Barnstaple Drive.

There was an argument between the suspect and a roommate. As the situation escalated, the suspect pulled out a “long gun”, possibly a rifle.

At some point, the roommate was able to leave the house, and now the suspect is barricaded inside.

Surrounding homes have been evacuated, and the situation is ongoing.
