Associated Press Release
ROME, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say a north Georgia man who fled police has been found dead in flood waters in Floyd County.
The Rome News-Tribune reports that 51-year-old Jeffery Lee Couch of Plainville was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon.
Deputies found Couch's body submerged in floodwaters on the side of a road. They had been looking for him since Tuesday, when a Gordon County deputy attempted to stop the man for a traffic violation.
It's unclear when Couch fled authorities. But a police statement says authorities last saw the man when he tried to swim away through floodwaters after his truck stalled during a chase.
Searchers found the man's body in about 4 feet of water. The water had been as deep as 12 feet before it began going down.
