The Valdosta Police Department Person’s Crime Unit has identified Michael Deshawn Humphrey as one of the offenders involved in the October 3, 2013 incident that occurred in the 400 block of W. Mary Street.

Humphrey has been charged with Armed Robbery and Burglary and is currently in the Lowndes County Jail. Other charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.

On October 3, 2013 at approximately 11:13 PM, the Valdosta Police Department responded to the 1500 block of N. Patterson Street in reference to the report of an armed robbery. Officers arrived and spoke to JaiWon Jang who indicated that as he was walking to his apartment in the 400 block of W. Mary Street when he was approached by two African American males, one of which pointed a handgun at him.

Jang stated that they asked for his money and he told them that he did not have any on him. Then one of the offenders told him that they needed to get his debit card, so they followed him to his apartment. According to Jang, while at the apartment the offenders stole several items. Jang then stated that the offenders told him that he was going to take his debit card and go to an ATM machine to get them some money.

Jang advised that as they left the apartment, one of the offenders walked off with the property that they had stolen and the other walked with him to the ATM machine on the campus at Valdosta State University where he withdrew money and gave it to him. Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the offenders.

Jang was not injured during the incident. Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department Person’s Crime Unit and a Crime Scene Technician from the Valdosta Lowndes Regional Crime Lab responded to investigate along with the Valdosta State University Police. The offenders were described as African American males, both tall and slender, one wearing a white t-shirt with long black shorts, and the other wearing a blue t-shirt.

While officers were searching the area they were approached by John McWilliams who indicated that he had been approached approximately one hour earlier in the 1100 block of N. Oak Street by two African American males, who pulled a handgun on him, but they did not get anything (2013-10-00715). Detectives are investigating these two incidents, which they believe involved the same two offenders.
