ATLANTA -- November 17, 2012

Conyers police have shot a man who they say stabbed his mother.

Police were called to an apartment complex Friday morning after getting a 911 call from the suspect's sister.

Authorities told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that police arriving at the apartment saw a 21-year-old man with a knife, Pernell Presley, kneeling over his mother.

Officials said Presley refused to drop the knife and charged at the officers, one of whom shot him. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and listed in serious but stable condition.

The suspect's mother, 42-year-old Trisa Stallworth, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center. She was listed in stable condition.
