ROCKLEDGE, Fla. (AP) -- An investigation continues into the death of a 9-month-old central Florida girl whose father left her in his truck for at least four hours.
Police say they're allowing time for 31-year-old Steven Lillie and his girlfriend to grieve the loss of their baby. Lillie left the baby in the back of his pickup truck on Monday while he was working in Rockledge.
Florida Today reports investigators are trying to determine whether the death involved criminal negligence or was a case of human error.
Police say Lillie discovered the baby's body in the truck around 4:45 p.m. after getting a call from a relative about the infant's whereabouts. In a 911 call, Lillie told dispatcher the baby had been in the truck for hours because he "absolutely forgot about her."
