TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida's prison system has received a $740,000 federal grant to train inmates in solar energy panel
installation.

Department of Corrections officials said Friday that the training program will be established at Sago Palm Work Camp in Palm Beach County.

The camp is one of three that provides inmates, who have three years or less remaining on their sentences, with education, training and treatment to better prepare them for finding jobs when they are released.

The state will partner with an accredited technical center that will conduct photovoltaic system training leading to energy practitioner certificates.

The program will include a mobile demonstration module for hands-on training.

People never learn - you get a big return on educating convicts and helping them return to society and succeed - it means LESS crime. Also - I agree with chris and watcher - there is hardly any incentive or help for installing solar at home. I tried to get something going in Georgia and there was zero interest from the government. The majority of people in central and south georgia and most of florida would have almost no monthly net home power bill if they could do solar. As usual politicians are all talk and no action.

Now we have to do BACK GROUND CHECKS on every one that works on our house to keep from becoming a CRIME VICTIM.

The faculty senate at Valdosta State University is taking a stand against concealed guns on campus. They unanimously passed a resolution last week to keep guns out of the classrooms and off university grounds. The faculty senate is standing in opposition to house bill 981.
