"Project Backyard" Helps Serve Those In Need

Thomasville, Georgia--September 22, 2012

Local organizations are coming together to serve those in need.

"These children, they need food. They need clothing, they need someone to wrap their arms around them and tell them they love them, that they're special, that they're important," said Project Backyard events coordinator, Amy Boland.

Project Backyard is an initiative, started by Inside Out Nation, which is a mission group in Thomasville.

"We really felt like God was putting on our hearts to start a project where we can go out to the community because we can be filled with worship and we can do all those things, but it doesn't mean anything if we're not going out to the community and serving," Boland said.

On Saturday volunteers went to several locations throughout Thomas County, including the Boys and Girls Club and Villa North Apartments.

They played games with the children and passed out canned goods, clothing and shoes. The people they helped were very grateful.

"It feels good to help people, and I think we should do it more often for the people that need it," said Tranaeja Reddick, a Thomasville resident.

"It makes me thankful for all of those organizations who take notice, and once again spend time with the kids; give them a place to be noticed and cared for," said Hananel Mavity, a team leader for Project Backyard.

Organizers say Project Backyard will partner with other local organizations and churches to host service events once a month starting now through June.
