Tallahassee Fire Department Release
Tallahassee, FL - November 7, 2012 - Yesterday at around 10:00 p.m., units from the Tallahassee Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team responded to a liquid propane leak at Barrington Park Condominiums located at 2801 Chancellorsville Drive. Residents at the complex called 9-1-1 after noticing liquid bubbling from the ground and a strong odor of propane near the clubhouse pool. Firefighters ordered residents to stay inside the surrounding condominium buildings while they gained access to the leaking valve attached to a 250 gallon underground liquid propane tank. The tank is used to supply pool and hot tub heaters.
Firefighters also monitored air quality throughout the incident to ensure the safety of residents. Officials believe that three gallons of liquid propane gas leaked out of the tank prior to stopping the leak. Williams Panhandle Propane and Leon County EMS were also on the scene and assisted the Tallahassee Fire Department.
The Tallahassee Police Department assisted with crowd control and stood by to assist with evacuation if necessary. No injuries were reported at the scene and no residents were displaced as a result of the incident.
