A young officer in our area is celebrating a big accomplishment. He was named Quincy's police officer of the year.

Curtis Bridges, 24, stood in front of residents and family members at the Quincy city commission meeting.

Police Chief Walter McNeil told stories of Bridges' bravery and presented his award.

Bridges is from Quincy and currently pursuing a degree at Florida State University.

He spoke about how he believes he won the award:

"Just by being dedicated to my duty, looking out for my community. I've grown up here my whole life. Just keep my nose to the ground while I work," he said.

This is his first year as an officer at the police department.
