Quincy, FL ---

Melissa Dowell has lived peacefully in her Quincy neighborhood for 15 years. And she's like many of her neighbors who say there's no such thing as too much protection.

Dowell says, "During the daytime while our children are at camp and we're at work, we truly need the police to patrol the area more."

"They're always out, but just to see them and know that they're around more. It'll just be better," says Donell Allen of Quincy.

Just last month, a 13-year old was arrested and charged in connection with several arson fires at homes in Quincy.

In May, a local man and a 16-year old were arrested, accused of starting a fire that destroyed a feedmill in Quincy.

Now, Quincy Police have started a Neighborhood Enhancement Program. It's designed to get officers in the neighborhoods and try to reduce crime by working with churches and neighborhoods.

"We just want the citizens of Quincy to work with us. We want them to communicate with us, and we want them to know that we care," says Glenn Sapp, Quincy Assistant Police Chief.

Quincy PD says their most recent major crimes have come from copper thefts and burglaries. And many residents say it's time for it to come to an end.

"It's good to see that the City of Quincy is getting more interactive with the community," says Kendall Frye of Quincy.

Maybe if they were out doing REAL policing and patrolling it would help. Having to respond to reports of dogs crapping in peoples yards is ridiculous!! I feel sorry for some of the calls those "Officers" have to take because of policy.
