Press Release: Tallahassee Fire Department

At 1:30 a.m., units from the Tallahassee Fire Department responded to an RV fire in the 100 Block of Shalimar Drive.

A 35-foot RV and nearby car parked in the driveway were fully engulfed with flames when firefighters arrived at the scene. Fire crews worked for 15 minutes to extinguish the large blaze and were able to minimize damages to the nearby home.

Damages from the fire include melted vinyl siding on the home near the RV, a total loss to one vehicle and minor burns to a second vehicle that were parked near the RV.

Including the total loss of the RV, damages were estimated at $50,000 and no injuries were reported at the scene. There were several loud explosions heard during the incident and believed to be the tires overheating and exploding.

Although the cause of the fire is not believed to be arson, the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are looking into the cause.

An explosion during the early morning hours had Tallahassee Fire Fighters breaking into an RV. The call came in around 1:30 Tuesday morning to 1106 Shalimar Drive in Tallahassee.

Responders told Eyewitness News the family heard a loud bang, thought it was lightning but once they looked outside they realized their RV was on fire. Although officials believe the big bang may have been an explosion coming from the front part of the RV, a full investigation is underway.

Three units responded to the fire, putting it out in about 15 minutes. No one was injured.
