Authorities Investigating if Alcohol was a Factor in Rash of Fatal Accidents in Jacksonville Area

The following is three press releases of separate accidents in the Jacksonville, FL area.

All of the accidents happened around new year, and alcohol relation is pending.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident, Flagler County, 1/1/13

Codie Ray Barlow, 20, of Palm Coast, FL was traveling northbound on Pacific Drive where the road curved sharply to the left in Flagler County in a 2007 Honda CBR Racing Motorcycle.

Barlow failed to negotiate the curve by driving off onto the east shoulder and struck a mailbox in front of 57 Pacific Drive.

The motorcycle began to overturn and ejected its Barlow.

Barlow came to final rest in the front yard of 59 Pacific Drive, the bike
came to final rest in the front yard of 61 Pacific Drive.

Barlow was not wearing a helmet, and speed was a factor.

At this time, it's unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor.

A neighbor heard the crash at 3:30 a.m., witnessed the damaged mailbox, and thought a vehicle struck her neighbors mailbox.

At that time, the neighbor did not see Barlow or the motorcycle.

At 7:30 a.m., the same neighbor came out of her house to check the damaged mailbox and to get her newspaper and found Barlow and the motorcycle at their final rest.

Pedestrian Struck and Killed, Jacksonville, FL, 12/31/12

Barry Congressi was traveling westbound on San Juam Avenue in the right lane in a 2007 Ford Mustang with passenger Diane Congressi.

The pedestrian was attempting to cross San Juan Avenue from the north side of the roadway.

The pedestrian entered into the path of the Ford Mustang. The pedestrian was struck by the front windshield area of the vehicle.

The pedestrian was transported to Shands Jacksonville where he was later pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

The identity of the pedestrian has been intentionally withheld pending next of kin notification.

One Dead, Three Seriously Injured in Truck Crash,Jacksonville, FL, 1/1/13

Sean Franke, 20, of Longwood, FL, was traveling westbound on Beach Blvd in a silver Dodge Ram truck, in the right lane approaching the intersection of Kernan Blvd.

For an unknown reason, the truck steered to the right and exited the roadway onto the shoulder.

The left front of the truck struck a large overhead sign post.

The driver and two passengers, Samantha Kasten & Jacob Materiawere, both 19, were transported to Shands Jacksonville with serious injuries.

One passenger, Dara Kusiv, 20, was pronounced deceased on scene.

Charges are pending further investigation.
